Mayflower Healthcare Alliance; delivering excellence in healthcare
Any changes to your skin could be a signal to your overall health; so it is important to monitor and look after your skin.
Dermatologist’s are qualified to diagnose and treat over 3,000 diseases. At Mayflower Healthcare Alliance our specialist’s routinely treat skin cancer, eczema, acne, psoriasis and nail, hair and fungal infections.
If you experience any changes to your skin that you feel aren’t normal you should seek advice from your GP. Should your GP suspect a dermatology problem they can then refer you to us, where you will be treated by our expert team of Dermatology clinicians.
All patients referred to us will be allocated an initial appointment, where your clinician will diagnose your condition and determine the most effective course of treatment.
Before being referred to the Community Clinics for Dermatology, you will have discussed treatment of your condition with your GP. Once you have been referred to us, you will be invited to come to one of our clinics. All appointments will be confirmed in a letter or appointment card with date, time and any additional information required.
You will receive a full consultation with an experienced Clinician upon invitation via appointment card or letter. This will include the diagnosis of the underlying condition and the subsequent management and treatment.
When visiting us, please bring along with you:
Your appointment letter or appointment card
A list of any questions you would like to ask
Your first full consultation is typically 15-20 minutes and the Clinician will advise on whether any procedures are required or follow up appointments to monitor progress and the appropriate frequency.
Where appropriate, the treatment process could then continue with a follow up appointment and in some cases a minor procedure.
You will be advised at the initial appointment when you will need to re-visit the clinic and an appointment. You will also be given an appointment card or you will be sent an appointment letter in the post.
At MHA, we provide a full range of dermatology minor operative procedures, including cryotherapy and biopsies, delivered in a safe and professional clinical setting.
If cyrotherapy is the best course of action, your Clinician will discuss this with you in advance of the procedure. This procedure is the application of extreme cold (from liquid nitrogen) to destroy abnormal or diseased tissue, such as:
The procedure is relatively quick and can sometimes be performed on the same day as your initial appointment. Some lesions such as warts may require repeat treatments.
Cryotherapy is a highly effective treatment. Some lesions may require repeat treatments. Cryotherapy is not suitable for all skin types, however you will be given advice at your appointment.
If a chaperone is required please do not hesitate to contact us.
If a biopsy is the best course of action your clinician will discuss this with you in advance of the procedure. An appointment will be booked for you to attend our minor procedure clinic.
Skin biopsies are performed to help with the diagnosis of your skin condition. Sometimes, different skin conditions can look similar to the naked eye so additional information is required. This is obtained by looking at the structure of the skin under the microscope after the cells have been stained with special coloured dyes.
There are two situations in which this usually occurs:
